Product Description Program (lufenuron) Flavor Tabs Prevent Flea Eggs And Larvae From Developing. This Breaks The Flea Life Cycle At Its Base And Effectively Wipes Out The Flea Population. Program Flavor Tabs Contain Lufenuron, An Insect Growth Regulator. Effective In Preventing Flea Populations. 6 Monthly Oral Doses.
Amazon.com Review An adult female flea can lay up to 2000 eggs in her lifetime, each of which can grow up to live on your pet and lay more eggs in your home. Given the speed at which these pests reproduce, it's no wonder that fighting an infestation can feel like a losing battle. 100% safe and effective, Program is like a birth control pill for fleas, controlling flea populations by preventing the development of eggs and larvae. Once the life cycle is broken, existing adult fleas die off to leave your pet flea-free. Pre-existing immature fleas in the dog's environment may continue to develop for a short time. This emergence generally occurs during the first 30 to 60 days, so if your pet already has fleas, noticeable results may not be observed until several weeks after dosing. To speed up the process for particularly severe infestations, you can use a product that kills adult fleas in conjunction with the first dose of Program. (Your veterinarian can recommend the most effective treatment plan for your pet.)
Perhaps the best way to use Program, however, is before the problem even starts, administering a Flavor Tab once a month year round to prevent your pet from ever developing an infestation. Always give Flavor Tabs with or just after a meal, crushing and mixing with wet food or dosing directly. Be sure to treat every pet in the household for the most effective results. This product includes 6, 204.9-milligram tablets appropriate for dogs 21 through 45 pounds, and cats 7 through 15 pounds. Program is safe for puppies and kittens as young as four weeks old.
Label Information Ingredients The active ingredient in Program Flavor Tabs is lufenuron, a benzoylphenylurea derivative classified as an insect development inhibitor (IDI). As an insect development inhibitor, Program Flavor Tabs do not kill adult fleas. Instead, they effectively and safely control flea populations on your pet by breaking the flea's life cycle at the egg stage. Without concurrent use of an adulticide, adequate flea control may not be achieved in pets that have repeated exposure to flea-infested animals or environments.
Warnings Not for human use. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after giving Program Flavor Tabs: vomiting, depression/ lethargy, pruritus (itchy, scratchy skin), urticaria (wheals, hives), diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), and skin congestion (red skin).
Special Instructions To ensure adequate absorption, always administer Program Flavor Tabs immediately after or in conjunction with a normal meal. Be certain the dog consumes the entire tablet or tablets. As an alternative to direct dosing, tablets may mixed in food. Watch the dog closely following dosing to be sure the entire dose has been consumed. If it is not entirely consumed, redose once with the full recommended dose as soon as possible. To ensure that your pet gets the greatest benefit from treatment, administer the tablet or tablets once a month. If you miss the 30-day interval, give Program Flavor Tabs immediately and resume your monthly dosing schedule. PROGRAM Flavor Tabs should be stored at room temperature, between 59° and 86°F (15-30°C).
Great product for long-term flea control!September 14, 2009 The woolgatherer(Pennsylvania, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm now a convert to Program and the overall approach of growth-regulation (as opposed to insecticide) meds when it comes to controlling fleas on our dogs and cats over the long haul. No matter how effective an insecticide product may be, unless it can do something to keep those thousands of flea larvae and pupae from growing into nasty egg-producing adult fleas, the flea population is always going to find a way to survive. By the way, of course you've got to treat the house with a growth regulator, too, but that's not hard to do, and it's a lot safer than bombing with an insecticide. We had a vicious infestation problem this past summer that a combination of Program, Capstar and Martin's I.G. Regulator solved.
Program is a MIRACLE!July 15, 2009 J. Higginson(Land of Corn and Beans) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The dog we have now is a flea magnet! I had never experienced fleas with our previous pets. It all came to a head when I was sitting at my sewing machine one day and felt little bites on my ankles...I looked down and was horrified to see fleas on me. They had infested our home! I became a woman on a mission, I tried every single topical flea treatment on the market and I began vacuuming everything like a maniac. The vets all swore to me that their topical products worked, and one vet even accused me of being a poor housekeeper since the fleas were now in our carpets and furniture. I was mortified! Somehow during the process I had heard of two oral flea med's, Program and Capstar. Since I'd tried everything else without success I was determined to get my hands on these two items but it wasn't easy because most stores and even veterinarians do not carry either one. I finaly found a farm & feed store who carried it (you can order it online but at the time I was desperate and needed them NOW). Program and Capstar work wonderfully by themselves, but for your animal's sake you really should use them together. Capstar kills ALL the fleas within 24 hours...Program stays in your pet's blood stream for one month and renders the fleas sterile so that they give birth to dead eggs. So even if your pet gets fleas again within that month they cannot reproduce, and the flea eggs that fall off the animal onto your carpets and furniture will not hatch. They are each expensive, but well worth the price considering how great they work. I highly recommend each product!
Program is the BEST-- My Cat is Allergic to AdvantageSeptember 14, 2009 Tax Writer(Maui) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My cat is allergic to Frontline and Advantage, which are topical pesticides that get ingested when the cat grooms itself. He would get a lump on his neck wherever I would apply it, so I stopped using topical insecticide for flea control.
I really like Program. It controls fleas for a month, and I never have a problem with my cat getting sick. I put the medication into a little bowl with tuna juice from a can, mix it up, and he drinks it right away.
Even if your cat has a flea infestation, just give them a flea bath and use Program. You can also use Capstar which works faster than anything else, and kills all the fleas on your cat in 5 minutes, but is not long-lasting. The people that give this product a bad review need to realize that if you cat is infested, you need to do something about the active fleas and the eggs. Program is an ovacide that prevents fleas from reproducing so it won't stop an infestation, but it's so much safer for your cat. I'll never use anything else.
Easy to pill your catDecember 21, 2008 M. Leesa Kriege(Austin, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Taste like a cat treat. Break 'em in half to get smell going, and all 6 of my cats (the spoiled and the ferals) ate it right up. Works great!
Best product I have found for long term flea control with 3 large dogs !May 18, 2009 Fisher man(North Florida) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Three large dogs makes flea control a challenge in our sandy/grassy yard. First you have to eradicate the fleas in the environment using lawn insecticide and get them off the dogs with flea shampoo or Capstar. Then the PROGRAM keeps any larva fleas from developing into adults and pretty soon any remaining fleas on the ground just sort of fade away. And, as long as you do not have other animals/pets bringing fleas into the yard, you have a good control solution. We let the dogs into the house occasionally and NO Fleas after 12 months now of using PROGRAM. Also, an important point to me is that PROGRAM is very benign, in that it contains no insecticides. The literature says that there is no known overdose of PROGRAM that would harm a human or a dog. However, PROGRAM does not protect against ticks, so the dogs also wear a flea collar.
