It is hard to know what to think or where to start with this topic.
PETA, in an effort to reduce the suffering and killing of live animals for food, is joining an already going effort to develop a commercially viable method to grow meat (muscle tissue) in what amounts to a lab or test tube environment without the drawbacks, ethical and environmental, of raising and slaughtering critters with two or more legs.
The PETA million dollars will go to the first scientist or group to come up with a commercially viable approach.
The "product" would simply be meat - no bones - no blood vessels - no face.
The energy from plants and fossil fuels to raise this product, per pound, in theory would be far less than a cow or chicken.
I suppose there would be less methane released into the air as well (cows are famous for their gas).
And it would also eliminate the trauma of slaughter.
All worthy goals for sure - just feels - so - so - solent green to me.
Thoughts?
