Oprah Dog topic, comes news that a dog called Sophie belonging to Oprah passed away last month of kidney failure.
Sophie was a cocker spaniel who lived with Oprah for 13 years and the upcoming program on puppy mill abuse is to be dedicated to her memory.
Published accounts claim Sophie was not a puppy mill pet though this strange statement appeared in an Associated Press story:
While Sophie was not a product of a puppy mill, and Winfrey's three current dogs were adopted from breeders, Winfrey says in the future she would look to adopt from an animal shelter.
I was not aware that one "adopts" dogs from breeders. I thought that is called a purchase.

This is spin for certain for Oprah is further quoted by the AP thus:
"I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show," she says.
Oprah: Just admit you bought the dogs - that's no crime.
Your efforts to bring attention to this issue are worthy. Spin is best left to political candidates. Failing to own you past choice is unseemly. There is no way those beautiful labs of yours were free.
And my sincere sympathy to you for your loss of Sophie.
