Well they did it folks. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed the law requiring pets to be sterilized today. Aimed, LA Mayor Villaraigosa says, to make LA a no-kill city, it is no joke to say this law has teeth. Here are the fines and penalties: - First offense: Information on subsidized sterilization services provided and given 60 days to comply.
- Second offense: Could be fined $100 and ordered to serve as many as 8 hours of community service.
- Third offense: Possible $500 fine or 40 hours of community service.
Dog "pros" will have exemptions in many cases. Otherwise, by the time the pet is 4 months old, most pet owners must have their dog or cat spayed or neutered. One published report said that LA City Officials claimed "Los Angeles animal shelters took in 50,000 cats and dogs last year and euthanized approximately 15,000 at a cost of $2 million." That's a terrible and sad fact. What do you think?
