Animal Control Agency Accused of Cruel Euthanasia |

The Lincoln Courier (Illinois) is reporting that the Logan County Animal Control agency is accused of inhumane euthanasia procedures and other irregularities. According to the paper, at least one speaker at a recent public meeting claimed that Animal Control administrator Dr. Lester Thomson performed euthanasia incorrectly by plunging a lethal injection into the animal’s heart without waiting for the anesthesia to take effect.
Several of the speakers at the meeting raised doubts about the recent departure of Vickie Loafman, an Animal Control warden. There were also allegations of maltreatment of animals the agency captures in the field. Efforts are apparently underway to organize a chapter of the American Human Society to prevent animals that remain beyond the 15 day window in the custody of Animal Control from being destroyed.
