www.DogExplorer.com News - Houston, TX – Actor Jackie Chan has publicly spoken out against the mass slaughter of dogs in China. Provincial Chinese governments have been killing huge quantities of dogs in an effort to control rabies outbreaks. Chan throws his celebrity support behind an animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in hopes of encouraging China to find other means to deal with the rabies outbreaks and resulting destruction of thousands of dogs, many apparently perfectly healthy.
Jackie Chan, well known for his successful film career, has created a card to be auctioned off on eBay with proceeds benefiting PETA and the organization's work in China on this issue. The card has the following message, "Of course it is our duty as human beings to love and respect each other. But that obligation extends to our animal friends as well. Love, Jackie Chan."
China has killed tens of thousands of dogs, primarily through clubbing. PETA, as well as other animal rights groups throughout the world, are calling for a stop to this method of disease control. Animal rights groups hope to increase awareness of rabies vaccinations and more humane uses of euthanasia as substitute measures.
