Dog Infected With Asian Bird Flu |

Houston, TX -- Thailand has confirmed the first known case of H5N1, or Asian bird flu, in a dog. "We have found that a dog was infected by the H5N1 virus," says Nittaya Chanruangmahaphol of the Thailand Health Ministry.
The details are sketchy concerning the canine, but the case has been confirmed by two Thai universities, and local newspapers report the dog is still alive.
This case of canine infection follows the first documented feline case of the avian flu which was reported last month. While officials claim there is no evidence of a burgeoning epidemic among household animals, this recent case indicates the disease is still being spread, despite Thailand’s efforts to eradicate it.
