Buddy, a critically ill one year old Schnauzer, seemingly gets another chance after his former owner learns that she can not afford his medical bills and asks the West Valley City Animal Shelter in Salt Lake City, Utah, to euthanize him.

But controversy develops when the shelter offers Buddy to the Wasatch Animal Rescue who arranges to have his liver disease and kidney stones treated.
